Eagles and the Mess

 It's been a while:

Before I go into the meat a potatoes about this season so far. I just want to say, I'm back to writing on this blog. I will try to release a post once to twice a week. I have so much to share and thoughts about the Eagles this season. Even thoughts on the future of the Eagles after this season altogether. So without further ado let's jump into it.

We were bad from the beginning:

I'm not going to go into super details. Being that I believe all the true fans will have an idea of all that has happened. What I will start with saying is this. We weren't looking good from the beginning. And if you think otherwise, I will have to question your football knowledge. We started the season terribly. The offense was 100% terrible. Even when we did have Jalen Hurts on the field. The running game even with Saquon Barkley was bad and inconsistent. We won the games we did. Primarily because of our defense. As well as some timely-made plays. I will give Hurts credit. Because he made the plays when needed.

But there's more to it than just him making plays. We need to talk about the negative parts. Now, I will sit here and throw out the basic arguments people throw out. Before I do I will say this. Jalen Hurts is a good quarterback, not great. I hope he does have a full recovery from the blood clots. And that he feels better than he has ever felt. Now with that said. I will say he is a very limited quarterback. There are many Jalen Hurts fanatics out there. They will blame his inconsistencies on everything else around him, then him himself.

Yes, you can make the case that he's had one hundred coordinators. Even say his numbers are at the same level as the best quarterbacks. But that is a narrow view. You could even tell me that other athletes see him highly and so on. Remember fellow athletes can be fans too. His best seasons came when he had a scheme that suited him best. Had the weapons he needed to get to the next level. And many will say that every quarterback needs that. Well I beg to differ. Quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen have done a lot with a lot less. Yes, they may have one key offensive weapon. Or have a very strong defense.

But they have been consistently doing the most with less. When we look at the Eagles offense before this season. We see a stacked offense and a more than capable defense. And since Vic Fangio had taken over the defense. It has been super solid. Outside of the times when they had to be out on the field more than the offense. The fact is this whether we like it or not. Whether the numbers say a bit differently. Jalen Hurts since his time with the Eagles has been inconsistent. What he has had is the talent around him to make his life easier. And people that actually watch the game in detail can see this easily. He has trouble going through progression. Even when he has time in the pocket. He scrambles when not having to. But doesn't scramble when needing to. Lastly is his over, and under-throwing of the football when players are open.

What is the problem?

The problem comes down to coaching. Yes, I can say that Jalen Hurts isn't the best quarterback. Even if I personally believe that he is good at best. But coaching plays a big role in any team. Especially the offensive coaches coordinating the offensive game. Sean Mannion has been a disappointment this season. His play calling has been head-scratching at best. Yes we can say that there has honestly been a lot of change since last season.

We had legendary offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland leave. We also traded Cam Jurgens, Lane Johnson stepped away and retired. We've also had massive injuries. From offensive linemen, running backs, wide receivers, and more. The problem does lean heavily on the coaching staff. And primarily the OC. Vic Fangio has done everything in his power to call a game plan that keeps us in the game. But it doesn't help that the defense is out on the field a lot more than the offense. By the time the second half starts, the defense is dying and is almost completely worn out.

We need the coaches to step up. I know Nick Siriani isn't a play caller. But he has to do something if he wants to keep his job. Sean Mannion needs to wake up and smell the coffee. His play calling has been abysmal. He needs to do a better job of getting players open and faster. Since he has an O-Line that has struggled. He needs to allow the quarterback to get into a rhythm. Also run the ball inside instead of outside to the right. Allowing the ability for the offense to run play-action plays for deep explosive plays.

My final verdict:

Can the Eagles still win the NFC East? Honestly yes, but more than likely we won't. We have Joe Milton III starting this week against the Giants. Many people have called for him to start. But again if people are going to say that Jalen Hurts is great. And our franchise quarterback. They are stating that he would be a lot better than Milton without actually saying it. So if that is the case. If Hurts struggled how much more would Milton struggle? On top of the fact that he hasn't spent a whole offseason learning the playbook.

I've learned that people have been acting out more emotionally. Rather than thinking logically. If I'm being honest Tanner McKee played well with what he had. The same terrible OC calling plays. But with a worse O-Line, practice squad running backs, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th string receivers. Him actually starting to look comfortable was a good sign. But now what we are seeing is a shift. The coach is trying to please the emotional fanbase. Giving them what they want. Rather than going with something that was starting to build. Still because of this change. We may be doing more harm than good for ourselves. Good thing is, this season the NFC East has been God-awful. If Milton does play better under these extreme circumstances everyone will be happy. But if it becomes worse. No Eagles fan will hold accountability for forcing a change. Or even think logically and accept that it was best to continue to move on with McKee.

Tell me what do you think about this season in the comments below.
