Kevin Byard Traded to The Birds, Anymore Trades?

Howie Roseman did it again you can say. Helping the defensive side of the ball by trading for a solid and well-known safety in Kevin Byard from the Titans. What does that mean for the Eagles, and does it do enough to help the defense? Let's talk a bit about that.

Kevin Byard trade and what it means for the Eagles:

Byard is a well-known safety in the league, not only that but has been a very good and consistent player for the Titans. It seems based off of this trade, that the Titans are looking to possibly rebuild their roster. At this point the Eagles will take any help they can to help bolster the defense. All they gave away was Terelle Edmunds a fifth and sixth round pick in 2024. Was that a lot to give away for a player in his 30's? Well in a case like this I can understand why they gave up those assets. One Terell Edmunds really hasn't been playing really well. And coming to the Eagles after not resigning with the Steelers kind of says a lot in a way. Yes, Edmunds is younger than Byard but that doesn't always mean much. Talent in a case like this means more. The Eagles are looking to get back to the Super Bowl, and Byard is a talent that can bolster a defense in need of DB's.

He immediately not only brings another veteran experience. Which is great, having him teach Reed Blankenship is a good thing. But also brings a lot of experience and still an above starter to a team that needs the help. He is smart and willing, another thing which I personally believe is going to be great is that he's a native to the city of Philadelphia. From reading on him he left when he was 14, meaning he experienced the city and probably remembers a lot. There's something about having players from the surrounding area play for the team. Playing for a team you grew up watching has to be a dream come true. And seems to fuel a player. Think about it. D'Andre Swift has been playing lights out. Better than his days in Detroit, when Vinny Curry was with the Eagles he played really well. When he left, he wasn't the same player until he came back. Hassan Reddick has been playing lights out. And has been more consistent with the Eagles than when he was with Arizona or Carolina.

All I'm saying is there's something about Philly and surrounding Philly athletes that when they play for the team, they grew up watching. They just go into another level. And I'm pretty sure us Eagles fans are loving it. I think Byard is going to fit right in. As well that we may see a better version of him. If that's the case the backend of the defense is going to be so much better.

Is Howie Roseman going to make any other moves?

One question I do have is if Howie is going to trade for a cornerback. Love the Kevin Byard trade. But I feel as though he should not leave the door closed on the cornerback position. Inconsistent play and injuries have been very bad for the birds. This position has to be upgraded. Reed Blankenship has been hurt and having Byard is great. But when both are out on the field the weak area will be the cornerbacks.

I'm not saying Howie has to get someone like Jalen Ramsey. What I am saying is that the Eagles need to pick up someone that can start now. And play better than an Eli Ricks, which I will give him credit in the Dolphins game. Still consistency is key here. Going young would be ideal. A player that can grow in his role and possibly be a long-time Eagle. But it seems that's becoming bleaker as the weeks go by. I still believe that Howie has some moves up his sleeves. But when is he going to take action and if he does for who?  And for what cost?
